Minesite Weekly Roundup 1st - 8th October 2012 Dear Minesite subscriber, Weekly Review Analysis from Standard Bank last week suggested that the current gold price of around US$1,780 factors in around 15 months of quantitative easing from the US Federal Reserve. That's not a view that's shared by everyone however. Evy Hambro of Blackrock was more than happy to go on record with a view that gold will hit US$2,400 next year, while Rick Rule, the well-known Canadian resources investor now associated with Sprott, has also been expressing his views. "In this environment, all financial assets, including gold, will be very volatile", said Mr Rule, "but gold will do well because the value of currencies will continue to erode. If you look at history, gold does very well in troubled times… Gold is a store of value, it's a currency, and it will continue to outperform fiat paper currencies around the world over time." Towards the end of the week, gold pushed up towards the US$1,800 mark once more, before giving back some ground to close at US$1,779 per ounce. Not surprisingly, the number of gold company chief executives who think the price will go through US$2,000 is legion. John McGloin of the newly-named Amara is one. David Reading of Aureus Mining is also bullish. We reported on recent developments at both of those companies last week, although in a week where commentary that investors were likely to be less enthusiastic in the wake of QE3 than they were following QE1 and QE2, gains were fairly muted. But that was only after strong recent runs. Amara has risen by more than 50 per cent since the late summer to the current 76p, while Aureus has risen by more than 40 per cent over the same period to the current 64.5p. But while the market may be pausing for breath just now, don't expect the pause to last too long. After all, this is an environment in which even the conservative analysis from Standard Bank expects gold to push towards US$1,900 by the end of the year, and for the average in the fourth quarter to be US$1,850.
