Minesite Weekly Roundup 2nd - 9th July 2012 Dear Minesite subscriber, The Julian Baring Scholarship Fund Minesite supports the Julian Baring Scholarship Fund Trustee List: Adam Fleming (Honoury Chairman) Justin Baring Francis Baring Graham Birch Jamie Strauss Established in 2000, the Julian Baring Scholarship Fund was created in the name of well-known gold fund manager, Julian Baring, in celebration of his two great passions – mining and Africa. It has been the ambition of the trustees to create a fund which, with the support of the industry and those in it, would endow annual scholarships for talented, but financially disadvantaged, African students to continue their studies and pursue a career in the competitive mining industry. The Fund has come a long way in the eight years since inception thanks to the hard work and support of both trustees and friends. In 2006, the Fund was given a major boost when it was generously awarded 1% of the initial equity in WitsGold. This has provided a fantastic base and security for the Fund's future and means that we can begin to look at expanding its scope, both in terms of numbers of students supported and at different levels of their education and potentially its geographical spread. It is a very exciting time for the Julian Baring Scholarship Fund and we are hoping, with further support both in terms of funding and corporate and industry partnerships, to be able to make an even more significant contribution to the skills and resources available to the industry, not forgetting the enormous impact we are able to make on the lives of those who are awarded the Scholarships. News: July 07, 2012 That Was The Week That Was ... In Australia Minews. Good morning Australia. It looks like your market performed well last week. Oz. For a few days, that was the case, but a lacklustre Friday rubbed much of the gloss off, and a poor performance on major overseas markets after we closed will hit us on Monday. Overall, the Australian market rose by 1.5 per cent, as measured by the all ordinaries index, but the metals and gold indices did better, rising by 2.7 per cent and 5.7 per cent respectively. The holiday-shortened trading week for both Canada and the United States proved a rather lacklustre affair. Investors seem to be content to sit and wait on the sidelines for more global economic data to be released before they lay down any bets. Once all the trading was done, the TSX Ventures Exchange, home to more junior exploration companies than anywhere else in the world, had tacked on 1.71 per cent, while the TSX Gold Index had fallen a modest 0.12 of a per cent.
