A MESSAGE FROM TOM
I see that twitter has delayed its planned IPO . Well there is a surprise. After the debacle of the Facebook (FB) flotation I cannot think that investor appetite for new media stock is exactly enormous. My other reason for showing lack of surprise is that I think that Twitter really does not wish to undergo the sort of metrics scrutiny of its user base that Facebook has suffered.

THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS
Hello Share Folk.
Mr friend Christian Wolmar is broadcasting's best expert on trains. You'll have seen him loads of times on the box. I mention this because Christian's favourite charity, The Railway Children, is featured in the Radio Four appeal this Sunday at 7.55am and 9.26pm
You might want to listen. It's a very deserving cause.

FREE SHARE TIP OF THE DAY
A report by Growth Equities & Company Research
TMT Investments has made three exciting investments, totalling $975,000, in the space of a month.
The investments consist of a $325,000 unsecured convertible promissory note in web-based sales customer relationship management ( CRM ) and sales pipeline management software firm Pipedrive, a 3% stake in web-based personal loyalty programs software group UsingMiles for $250,000 and a $400,000 unsecured convertible promissory note in Virool, the world's first viral video Ad network that allows companies to distribute video content through a series of online publishers.
With the group also announcing half-year results which are typical of an early-stage venture capitalist we remain of the belief that it has the long-term potential to generate an attractive rate of return for shareholders.
101 WAYS TO SAVE MONEY
By Tom Winnifrith
Every week, ShareCrazy will excerpt a part of Tom Winnfrith's book 101 ways to save money in a recession.
Number 28: Register with www.skype.com to make all your phone calls
Ensure that your friends and family especially if they live abroad are also on Skype, then start calling. It is absolutely free with no standing charge. You can also make video calls at no charge. The sound quality is occasionally a little patchy and video quality is even more variable but it is improving all the time. And it's absolutely free. As I write there are 18.7 million people around the world online and on Skype who I could chat to or video conference without it costing me a cent. Unfortunately I appear to know only six of them and I have no real desire to talk to any of them. But on average I make around two personal calls a day on Skype of which one will be abroad so it is probably saving me at least GBP1 a day.

THE WEEK AHEAD
Central banks, Morrisons, Genus
Central bank decisions will be in focus next week, particularly in the wake of the central bankers' economic symposium in Jackson Hole.
Indeed, so busy is European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi preparing for next week's meeting that he has been unable to attend the jolly-up in the Wyoming skiing resort.
"We regard it as very unlikely that the ECB will announce a yield cap or a very detailed strategy for bond buying. After the recent improvement in market sentiment, we thus see the risk of some investors being disappointed, potentially triggering a bit of risk-off," said Luca Cazzulani of UniCredit.
The Bank of England 's meeting offers the remote possibility of some drama. While the bank is odds-on to retain its key lending rate, minutes from the previous meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee indicated that there was some support for topping up the asset purchase (quantitative easing) pot, although the consensus was that the Bank should allow a bit more time to see how the recently introduced Funding for Lending Scheme pans out.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Bank of Canada are also expected to stand pat with their policies.
On the corporate front, supermarket chain Morrisons reports interim figures on Thursday, which broker Jefferies thinks "are likely to bear the scars of weather challenges".
Nevertheless, "self-help and ROCE [return on capital employed] discipline remain powerful attractions (the latter likely to lead to even greater capex [capital expenditure] scrutiny)," the broker suggests.
"We anticipate self-help to have allowed for broadly unchanged underlying EBIT [earnings before interest and tax] margin (or a slight decline including the dilution from petrol sales). Crucially, we still forecast 8% H1 EPS [first half earnings per share] growth as buyback activity starts to reward shareholders," Jefferies added.
"We expect Morrisons to outline good progress in its M-local trials and the preparation of a wider non-food online roll-out. Performance in the new fresh format is also likely to be reassuring in more affluent catchments. Despite this, we expect Morrisons' focus on maintaining industry-leading ROCE to likely result in reducing capital intensity (at this stage we estimate a £1.05bn peak in 2012/13), as the group balances a challenged trading backdrop with new growth opportunities, extending vertical integration and a stepped-up Southern expansion," Jefferies said.
Tuesday has a bit of an agricultural feel to it, with animal genetics company Genus and veterinary healthcare company Dechra Pharmaceuticals set to update the market.
Peel Hunt says emerging markets growth should be offsetting higher feed prices at Genus . It is forecasting a 15% improvement in profits, with strong growth across a number of emerging markets.
The key issue currently is the rise in feed prices, Peel Hunt believes. "This will have a direct impact on Genus's feed costs of around £1m, but it will also affect its customers. Some customers may well struggle in the short term, but generally higher feed prices are good news for Genus as it accelerates the trend to industrialisation of the industry and reinforces the benefits of genetics in improving feed conversion," the broker predicts.
"We expect to hear more about plans in China, particularly with the announcement of the major JV [joint venture] with Besun, which will deliver genetics to 10m slaughter pigs when in full operation," the broker added.
As for Dechra , the market is expecting profit before tax of £31.1m on revenue of £420.2m. Earnings per share are tipped to rise 19% to 37.03p, paving the way for the full-year dividend to be upped to around 12.16p from 10.97p last year.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
By Rodney Hobson
A book review by Luka Lukic of t1ps.com
In this book Rodney Hobson aims to provide a straight forward introduction into the world of portfolio management and best practices to employ when selecting what you want to invest in. Thankfully it doesn't pretend to offer a guaranteed, one size fits all, scheme to become a millionaire, but instead attempts to compel the reader to assess what they wants to get out of their investment and then provides guidance to that end.
The book aims to explain the different behaviours of the various market sectors, and the importance of not only holding a range of shares, but diversifying them throughout the sectors to ensure a proper hedge. It also walks the reader logically through a range of factors than can, and most likely will, affect the share price and gives case studies to demonstrate the impact on real companies.
