News: September 17, 2012 AIM Newcomer Eland Oil & Gas Opens Trading At LSE As It Targets Rapid Production Ramp In Nigeria The week started on a high for AIM newcomer Eland Oil & Gas as CEO Les Blair opened trading at the London Stock Exchange.  This was a good opportunity for the Nigeria-focused start-up to raise its profile as it gets busy with the gritty realities of ramping up production from a significant oil mining lease in Nigeria, OML 40.   While many of its AIM peers scrabble for cash to meet their minimum commitments in frontier corners of the globe, Eland has set itself apart by securing a former Shell asset that is dripping with oil and, importantly, following its IPO earlier this month, the Aberdeen company has the capital to press ahead with monetising that oil. News: September 13, 2012 Bahamas Petroleum Co Reassures On Licence Integrity But Awaits Outcome Of National Referendum On Oil Exploration Monday brought some good news, and some not so good, for shareholders in Bahamas Petroleum Company (BPC).  The AIM-quoted company has been buffeted by events beyond its control since it bagged huge tracts of the Bahamian offshore in 2006.  BP’s Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010 soured local appetite for oil prospecting in these pristine waters, with the Government of The Bahamas suspending applications and reviewing existing licences.  Oil exploration became a political hot potato in the run up to the 2012 general election, further stalling progress, and now the new Government plans a referendum on the issue – this will be 2013 at the earliest, meaning further delay for BPC.
