Boone Pickens, hedge fund magnate and founder of former super-independent Mesa Petroleum, who has long been the cheerleader for the use of natural gas as a road fuel. Full story... News: August 14, 2013 Nighthawk Energy Delivers New Production Record As Its Arikaree Oilfield Continues To Impress Go back two years and many investors had written off Nighthawk Energy as just another AIM underachiever.  The company was, in the words of new chairman Stephen Gutteridge, “dead on its feet” having burned through cash on a series of under-performing assets while the flagship project in Colorado was being poorly managed with the wells delivering risible production numbers.  Yet today Nighthawk, under new management and having bought out its former partner to gain operational control of its Colorado acreage, is rewarding those investors who stuck by it through the dark times. The share price is up almost 200 per cent over the past year and its 2013 exit rate production target of 1,000 bpd has already been exceeded. Full story... News: August 13, 2013 TXO Is Making Headway With Its Hydrocarbon Recycling Plant In The Bahamas TXO used to specialise in stripper wells in Texas but is now a small energy investment business with  interests in producing wells in Kentucky,  an oil recycling opportunity in the Bahamas and a frontier exploration venture in Tasmania,When TXO CEO Tim Baldwin and his colleagues met with a group of analysts, investors and journalists in the Old Dr Butler’s Head pub in the City of London back in March it was Tasmania and the Tasmania Oil & Gas company which dominated the proceedings. When we foregathered at again at Dr Butler’s in late July it was the Grand Bahamas Group (GBG) and its 100 per cent owned subsidiary Morgan Oil Marine (MOM) which was the focus of interest. TXO has a 30.17 per cent per cent interest in GBG with an option to raise its stake to 43.18 per cent by year end. Full story... News: August 13, 2013 Norwest Energy Prepares For Key Tests At Its Arrowsmith-2 Shale Gas Well In Western Australia As we have noted before on oilbarrel.com, a number of small caps have had their fortunes transformed in recent years as shale fever has prompted a rethink of legacy assets.  The rebirth of ASX stalwart Vic Pet, for example, which now trades as Senex Energy, is largely down to its once neglected coal seam gas acreage.  Fellow ASX stock Norwest Energy has also been reinvigorated as a result of its pioneering efforts to prove up the unconventional potential of its acreage in the northern Perth Basin and can claim the distinction of having drilled the first shale well in Western Australia. News: August 12, 2013 Plexus Holdings Rallies As Safety Issues Continue To Drive Customer Adoption Of Its Disruptive Wellhead Technology An upbeat pre- trading update from Plexus Holdings drove the shares almost ten per cent higher to close at 245 pence recently.The specialist wellhead provider, which is building a reputation for innovative engineering solutions to some of the safety and technical challenges to the industry today, advised the market that it expects the full year results, due out in late October, will be “well ahead” of current market expectations. News: August 12, 2013 Canada’s Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas Still Upbeat On Offshore Namibia Frontier Play Canadian-listed indie, Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas, is among the growing list of hopefuls looking to open up Namibia’s offshore sector. It boasts the second largest acreage holding in the country with three blocks in the offshore Walvis Basin area, with a combined total of 18 billion barrels prospective oil, or 12.74 billion barrels net; it also holds two onshore blocks with shale and coal bed potential. Full story... Market Overview: August 09, 2013 Sustained Stable Economic Data From China Keeps Oil Prices Steady Sustained economic data from China kept the oil price steady this week. As investors view a sense of stabilisation in the Chinese economy, demand growth looks comfortable for the near future. In early trading on Friday, Brent crude had gained ground above US$107 a barrel with WTI now priced just higher than US$104 a barrel. Full story... News: August 08, 2013 AIM Newcomer Frontier Resources International Gets Busy In The Field In Zambia Hot on the heels of its debut on AIM and Frontier Resources International has posted an update on its reconnaissance work in Zambia, a country well under the industry's radar. Frontier has 90 per cent of a 6,427 sq km block in the Kafue Trough in the south west of the country, alongside local company Metprosol which has a carried ten per cent interest. Full story... The company has a portfolio of assets across Europe and North Africa (and, by acreage, is one of Europe's largest unconventional oil and gas companies), but it is Poland that has provided the current focus. News: August 07, 2013 Enegi Oil Lands Farm-In Partner To Kick Start Multi-Well Campaign In Newfoundland We reported last month how AIM-quoted Enegi Oil was, at last, starting to make some headway with its Garden Hill South oilfield onshore Newfoundland.  As regular readers will know, this is a project that has limped along for a number of years with intermittent production. Now, however, the PAP-1 well is delivering sustained production, albeit it with a high water cut: the most recent published numbers showed the well had produced 1,731 barrels of high grade oil over a period of 214 hours between mid-March and May 17, during which time it had been flowed at varying rates and intervals, with the produced oil sold at a premium to WTI. It's not a lot but it's still a lot better than when the well was shut-in for long periods of time Full story...
