As the Brits continue to shiver their way through 2013, and thermostats remain unseasonably high, these are good times to be in the energy business. Indeed last year, also noted for its inclement weather, saw AIM-quoted Good Energy deliver a 31 per cent rise in revenues to £28.2 million with pre-tax profits up 27 per cent at £1.4 million. O'Quigley's Clontarfia connection relates to his many years at Irish darling Providence Resources, which has transformed the prospectivity of offshore Ireland by making the country's first commercial oil strike and stimulating an exploration effort that now sees ExxonMobil drilling a supergiant off the west coast. Providence's former FD became CEO of TSX Venture-quoted Falcon in May 2012 and has spent the past year running a canny and critical eye over a portfolio that has no production and no cash flow but can boast a frontier acreage position that is about two thirds the size of Ireland. Another member of the Clontarfia is on board: City favourite John Craven, who has a legion of loyal investors following his successes with Petroceltic International and Cove Energy, is chairman. News: May 16, 2013 Despite the political risk weighing on the stock, Ireland's Circle Oil has impressed analysts with a strong set of results. Revenues were up 26 per cent at US$73.3 million and EBITDA up 48 per cent at US$39.3 million. Importantly, cash from operations leapt 243 per cent and its working capital position improved as receivables – the cash due from the Egyptian state oil company EGPC for its production – fell even as sales rose. News: May 16, 2013 There was some good news for holders of ASX-quoted Central Petroleum this week as the frontier explorer completed a farm-out to French oil giant Total, thereby unlocking a US$60 million exploration spend on its three permits in Queensland.
