Indeed last year, also noted for its inclement weather, saw AIM-quoted Good Energy deliver a 31 per cent rise in revenues to £28.2 million with pre-tax profits up 27 per cent at £1.4 million. The company, which ended the year with £9.5 million in cash, has upped its dividend by nine per cent to three pence per share Full story... News: May 22, 2013 We wrote last April about TSX and AIM listed Caza Oil & Gas’s programme to switch its focus from higher risk/higher impact drilling in Louisiana and Texas to fast emerging liquid rich, low risk, hydrocarbon development opportunities in Bone Spring properties in the Permian Basin in New Mexico. This came after two years of jerky profits and haphazard production. Full story... Features: May 21, 2013 Philip O'Quigley, CEO of Falcon Oil and Gas, was introduced by oilbarrel.com editor Stewart Dalby as part of the “Clontarfia”, a reference to the road in Dublin that has been a starting point for so many Irish start-ups. O'Quigley's Clontarfia connection relates to his many years at Irish darling Providence Resources, which has transformed the prospectivity of offshore Ireland by making the country's first commercial oil strike and stimulating an exploration effort that now sees ExxonMobil drilling a supergiant off the west coast. Providence's former FD became CEO of TSX Venture-quoted Falcon in May 2012 and has spent the past year running a canny and critical eye over a portfolio that has no production and no cash flow but can boast a frontier acreage position that is about two thirds the size of Ireland. Another member of the Clontarfia is on board: City favourite John Craven, who has a legion of loyal investors following his successes with Petroceltic International and Cove Energy, is chairman. Features: May 20, 2013 Despite the competing attraction of a rare day of sunshine, oilbarrel.com's 59th conference at The Brewery in the City of London was well attended as investors, fund managers, analysts and industry professionals filled the historic venue. In the run up to the May conference there were a number of changes to the programme as some companies postponed their appearance until next month's event and others made a last minute pitch to book a slot. Full story... Market Overview: May 17, 2013 Economic data was mixed this week resulting in slight volatility for the commodity markets. American unemployment was up at a six week high, raising fears for consumer demand as we head into the summer driving season. In early trading on Friday, Brent crude was priced above US$103 with WTI down below US$95 a barrel. Full story... News: May 16, 2013 Despite the political risk weighing on the stock, Ireland's Circle Oil has impressed analysts with a strong set of results. Revenues were up 26 per cent at US$73.3 million and EBITDA up 48 per cent at US$39.3 million. Importantly, cash from operations leapt 243 per cent and its working capital position improved as receivables the cash due from the Egyptian state oil company EGPC for its production fell even as sales rose. Full story... News: May 16, 2013 There was some good news for holders of ASX-quoted Central Petroleum this week as the frontier explorer completed a farm-out to French oil giant Total, thereby unlocking a US$60 million exploration spend on its three permits in Queensland. (The farm-out includes a fourth permit, in the Northern Territory, and this will close on the grant of an exploration permit). Full story... News: May 15, 2013 Seven months ago, Simba Energy managing director Hassan Hassan confessed to oilbarrel.com conference delegates that his chairman had charged him with striking the “best deal ever in Kenya”. This week's news of a farm-out of Block 2A to privately-owned Ajax Exploration may not live up to that billing but it is still a landmark event for the TSX Venture explorer, which in just two years has bagged a series of frontier blocks across sub-Saharan Africa. Shares in the C$20 million market cap company jumped 20 per cent on the news Full story... News: May 15, 2013 Toronto-listed Canacol Energy Limited is another Canadian company with a footprint in Latin America, holding 26 exploration and production permits across six basins in Colombia and Ecuador. As well as Toronto, the company is also listed on the Colombian Stock Exchange Full story... |
