With a C$15 million equity raise underway as it gears up for an exciting pilot production drilling campaign in Indonesia, the team at TSX Venture-quoted CBM Asia Development is certainly busy. We were delighted therefore to learn that the Vancouver-based company has time to present at Thursday's oilbarrel.com conference in London, with the company sounding out institutional investors as it mulls an AIM listing later this year.
CBM Asia Development feels London investors will have a better understanding of its coal bed methane projects in Indonesia, where it has landed an exciting joint venture with ExxonMobil. Coal-rich Indonesia has vast resources of CBM – with a potential 453 trillion cubic feet in-place, more than double its conventional natural gas reserves – and it is commercially viable, with BP already producing CBM from its Sanga Sanga PSC and converting it into LNG for export to Japan from the Bontang facility. This is the first ever CBM-to-LNG export, four years ahead of Australia. Oil majors are lining up to replicate this model, among them ENI, Total and Australian CBM giant, Santos. This could be an exciting year for CBM Asia Development, one of the early movers here, as its 2013 work programme is geared to see first commercial gas flows, upgrade resources and potentially generate revenues from its acreage, de-risking the investment proposition.
