Mercom was established on 15 February 2012 to acquire and develop in situ oil sand properties in Canada. On 25 February 2012, the Company entered into a Farm-in Agreement to acquire a 50% ownership and working interest in four oil sand leases over the Chard field in Alberta, Canada (the "Chard Oil Sands Leases") in consideration for C$700,000 and for agreeing to fund a further C$2.5 million of exploration and development expenditure on these leases. Full story... News: June 25, 2012 It might take a couple of months before we know the results but the Shabeel North-1 well being sunk in Puntland, Somalia is still a bit of a nail biter. The well is currently being drilled by Joint Venturer and operator Horn Petroleum, which is majority owned by Africa Oil Corp and trades on the TSX Venture Exchange. Horn has a 60 per cent interest in the well. The other partners in the two blocks under licence, Nugaal and Daroor, are AIM and ASX listed minnows, Red Emperor Resources and Range Resources, which both have a 20 per cent stake respectively. Just last week operator Providence Resources reported that permeabilities in the basal oil-bearing reservoir are better than expected while a secondary target further uphole has also demonstrated good permeabilities; this presents an interesting opportunity for the future for while the secondary sands are thinly developed in Providence’s game-changing 48/24-10z appraisal well they thicken significantly to the west. News: June 21, 2012 Despite the distractions of bitter corporate wrangling and boardroom reshuffles, ASX-quoted Central Petroleum is making headway with its Surprise oil project in the Northern Territory, where there could be 100 million barrels of oil-in-place. It has now received all approvals to start an extended well test on its Surprise-1 well, which tested at a rate of 380 bpd, putting it on track for maiden oil production later this year. News: June 20, 2012 Oil and gas aren’t the first things that come to mind when one thinks of New Zealand, but AIM listed Kea Petroleum has secured itself four exploration permits in the country’s main hydrocarbon basin – Taranaki – and is in the middle of an exploration programme that, if successful, could see full scale production begin within the next 3 months. With Taranaki currently hosting total proven reserves in excess of a billion barrels of oil equivalent, there are proximate precedents that Kea will look to replicate. Full story...
