Shareholders In Sterling Resources Find Some Solace As Breagh Gas Field Finally Comes Onstream

One of the largest gas discoveries in the Southern North Sea is finally onstream, marking the end of what has been a torturous development.  RWE Dea UK announced on Monday that the Breagh gas field has come online, flowing 97 million cubic feet per day from three wells. As two more wells are hooked up, production should hit 135 million cf/d next month with peak output of 141 million cf/d expected in early 2014.

Poweralternatives:Green Dragon Investors Warily Absorb News That Third Parties Have Drilled 1,500 Wells Across Its CBM Blocks In China

Investors in Green Dragon Gas have long lamented the slow progress in drilling up its six coal bed methane blocks in China.  As we have pointed out before, the coals here have proved challenging and the Hong Kong-based company has had to develop its own drilling and completion technology to unlock the gas from the brittle, faulted seams. It has also had to build up its own in-country rig and technology capabilities, since spun off into separate companies, namely AIM-quoted Greka Drilling and Greka Engineering & Technology.

Poweralternatives:TyraTech Wins More Distribution Deals For Its Natural Pesticides Products But Warns 2013 Earnings Will Undershoot Targets

We wrote earlier this year that Tyratech, the the North Carolina-based natural sciences group, was making the tricky transition from R&D start-up to commercial operation.  The release of its interims show it is still very much in start up mode, with the revenue stream a mere dribble at US$0.8 million from collaborative agreements and the company still in the red with a net loss of US$2.8 million.

Oil Prices Boosted By The Prospect Of A Resolution Of The US Political Standoff

The American political standoff is closer to a resolution even though both sides have yet to reach an agreement. The country should soon be back in business and that boosted oil prices at the end of the week. In early trading on Friday, Brent crude was priced around US$111 with WTI regaining strength and trading around US$103 a barrel.

Tangiers Petroleum Terminates Australia Farm-Out As Cash-Strapped Chinese Partner Misses Key Deadline

When signing a farm-out investors often look not only for the terms agreed but also the credibility of the farm-inee.  There's a good reason for this: it's one thing to promise investment and activity, quite another to deliver it.  And it's the reason why, as we reported in December 2012, shares in AIM-quoted Tangiers Petroleum dipped on news of the farm-out deals struck for its acreage in Morocco and Australia.   Not only were the terms rather less generous than senior management had indicated when they began the farm-out process but the partner bagged for its Bonaparte Basin acreage off the coast of Australia was some little known Chinese outfit.
