Petro Matad Raises US$5 Million To Fund Exploration Work In Mongolia As Investors Await News Of Farm-Out

Shares in AIM-quoted Petro Matad have been under pressure this year as investors grew impatient for news of a fundraise and farm-out to accelerate the work rate on its frontier acreage in Mongolia. After the ill-judged drilling campaign of 2011/2012, which burned through cash, a new management team introduced a back-to-basics exploration strategy and opened a data room to bring in partners for its 100 per cent owned blocks: XX, near the Chinese border, and IV and V, which cover a huge swathe of undrilled territory in the middle of Mongolia.

Conference Report 2: Argentina Puts Its Case For Shale Investment While Alumni Oil Seeks Backers For “Maverick” Approach To Exploration In Namibian Frontie

Never let it be said that oilbarrel.com events shy away from difficult subjects.  Indeed, as our guest speaker Carlos Alfara, a partner in the Buenos Aires-based Alfaro-Abogados law firm and chairman of the Argentine American Chamber of Commerce, acknowledged, he faced two tasks in his presentation, one easy, one hard.  “The difficult task is just one word, Argentina,” he said.  “The easy task is to say shale oil and gas opportunities.”

Conference report 1: MEC Resources Eyes Bonaparte Basin Shale Gas Opportunities While Oxford Catalysts Nurtures Early Adopters As Macro-Climate Favours Modular GTL

Thursday was the 60th oilbarrel.com conference and the last before the summer break, not that if felt very summery in London, with raincoats and umbrellas still much in evidence – a sure sign that London's tennis season has indeed begun.  To get us thinking of warmer climes, the first speaker of the day was David Breeze of ASX-quoted MEC Resources.  The Australian small cap has a 45 per cent interest in Advent Energy, an unlisted company that has permits off the coast of New South Wales and onshore in Western Australia's Bonaparte Basin.

Good US Economic News Buoys Oil Markets

Signs of economic recovery in the US will always impress the market, even if global growth projections remain sluggish. The oil market got a boost with improved retail and jobs data and in early trading on Friday, Brent crude was priced just below US$105 with WTI above US$96 a barrel.

Poweralternatives:Waste And Renewable Energy Company The TEG Group Adds To Its Composting Portfolio

It is now 12 months since The TEG Group ended its search for a buyer and instead raised £2 million through an open offer to continue alone.  Initial indications appear to be that this was the right decision – albeit one partly forced upon it by a lack of timely and appropriate offers from would-be buyers – as the renewable energy group is picking up new business and its 2012 results show real traction as the combination of power generation with its core composting business boosts revenues and margins.

Enegi Oil Starts To See Sustained Output from Garden Hill As It Scouts Marginal Field Opportunities In The North Sea

As shareholders in AIM-quoted Enegi Oil know only too well, small cap single asset companies don't have a lot of manoeuvre room when that asset under-performs.  With its Garden Hill oilfield in western Newfoundland serially disappointing, Enegi has worked hard over the past year to diversify the risk profile.  You wouldn't know it from the ailing share price but the company has now diversified into early stage exploration projects in Ireland and Jordan and signed a joint venture to develop marginal offshore oilfields with technology provider ABTechnology.
