Latest News News: January 09, 2013 Ascent Resources Buys Time Through £5.5 Million Convertible Loan Note Issue  Cash-strapped Ascent Resources has staved off looming insolvency through a last minute convertible loan note issue, buying itself vital breathing space while it mulls its strategic options.   As we reported in December, the AIM-quoted company only had enough cash to see it through to the end of 2012 so it was with some relief it announced on Christmas Eve that Henderson Global Investors would be subscribing to convertible loan notes of up to £5.5 million.  The proceeds will be used to repay debt, notably £1.9 million to Yorkville and £350,000 to Cento Bank, as well as meetings monthly overheads and its modest 2013 capex programme. News: January 08, 2013 Argentina Starts 2013 By Reasserting Its Claim To Sovereignty Over The Falkland Islands But Its Business As Usual For The Oil Companies It may be a new year but Argentina's president isn't letting go of old animosities. In an open letter printed in British newspapers recently, President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner called on the British government to abide by a UN resolution to negotiate a solution over the islands, which, she claims, were forcibly stripped from Argentina in "a blatant exercise of 19th Century colonialism". News: January 07, 2013 Greka Drilling Enjoys Bumper Christmas As It Signs Two Breakthrough Third Party Contracts In China Shares in Greka Drilling, having been under pressure for the best part of 2012, rallied in the final weeks of the year.  Indeed, December was something of a turnaround for the AIM-quoted company, which in 2011 was spun out of coal bed methane producer Green Dragon Gas, as it announced the signing of two third party contracts, marking a key milestone in its development as a sustainable standalone drilling services provider. Shares in the company were trading at 14 pence on the first day back after the New Year break, almost double the levels of early December but still far short of the 35 pence of a year ago. Even so, there is much to give investors confidence that 2013 will be a year of recovery and growth.  The third party contracts will not only deliver valuable revenues – although no figures have been released - but also provide real endorsement of the proprietary LiFaBriC technology and the business model. News: January 07, 2013 Canadian-listed Cub Energy Looking To Double Production From Ukraine During 2013 Ukraine-focused Cub Energy Inc. may not have the kind of macho name commonly associated with the oil and gas industry but the company is still pawing its way up the ladder of success.Listed on Toronto’s Venture exchange, it is now one of the largest producers in the energy-hungry  Ukraine  European state, holding nine exploration and production licences across the country’s two major producing basins.Production currently stands at around 1,600 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), mostly gas, plus some condensate. Market Overview: January 04, 2013 Oil Prices Get Off To A Positive Start In 2013 As Fiscal Cliff Problems Appear To Decline The oil price got off to a positive start for 2013 after the market reacted favourably to the budget deal agreed in Washington.  The “fiscal cliff” disappeared, at least for now, as lawmakers agreed a compromise solution to re-examine higher taxation and spending cuts in two months time. In the coming year, the market will continued to be influenced by the stare of the global economy, geopolitical issues and rising oil supply. In early trading on Friday, the first week of 2013, Brent crude was holding up above US$111 a barrel with WTI trading close to US$93 a barrel. Full story... News: January 03, 2013 Oando Energy’s ‘Transformational’ Deal With ConocoPhillips To Supercharge Production  Africa-focused Oando Energy Resources, which is listed on Canada’s Toronto Stock Exchange, is moving into the big leagues with a US$1.8 billion deal that will send its oil and gas production soaring.The Calgary-headquartered company announced plans at the end of December to take on the Nigerian business of US super-major ConocoPhillips, in a deal that will catapult its production to around 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd).
