Latest News News: September 04, 2013 Aminex Sells South Weslaco In US$450,000 Cash And Paper Deal To Ambitious AIM Newcomer Northcote Energy Aminex has been seeking to offload its properties in the US for the past year as it tightens its focus on Tanzania, where it has two gas discoveries and plenty of exploration potential to chase down. The clock has been ticking on this divestment process after Aminex, which maintains a premium listing on the LSE, took on a US$8 million bridge loan, the repayment of which requires the sale of these properties by year-end or require another equity raise. News: September 03, 2013 Leni Gas & Oil Signs Deals To Reduce Royalties And Increase Production In Trinidad One day recently the Times newspaper’s market report said: “On the bulletin boards of financial websites, frisky investors cajoled each other to pile into junior mining stocks, lest they miss out on the next Rare Earth Minerals.” Shares in that explorer following an important announcement were 10.8 per cent down on the day at 0.83p amid profit taking. News: September 03, 2013 SOCO International Posts Record Results And Delights Investors With Higher Than Expected Return Of Capital   It's been a while since the oilbarrel.com team wrote about SOCO International but the London-listed E&P's first half results were too good to ignore. The FTSE250 company, which has producing assets in Vietnam and high impact exploration in Africa, hit a new production record in the first half of 17,135 barrels of oil equivalent per day and reported a record post-tax profit of US$105.4 million, up from US$97.2 million a year ago.  The company is debt-free and had over US$360 million in cash at mid-year.  And in a sector that has a reputation, sadly well deserved, for burning through shareholder funds, the London-based company has delivered on its promise to return capital to shareholders, announcing a better-than-expected 40 pence per share payout. When it was de-merged from mostly UK onshore E & P and fellow AIM-listed junior Egdon Resources in January 2008, it was named Portland Gas after the place in Dorset in southern England where its then main gas storage project was sited. Full story... Market Overview: August 30, 2013 Concerns About Possible Syria Attack Drives Oil Prices Up Global markets went into shock mid-week as Western powers talked tough on Syria. Nervous investors drove the oil market wild with Brent crude hitting new highs above US$117 a barrel in heavy trading that was 60 per cent above the 30-day average. In early trading on Friday, Brent crude was lower priced above US$114 with WTI trading above US$107 a barrel. Full story... News: August 29, 2013 Northern Petroleum Commits To New Well In Alberta As Its Planned Re-entry Programme Hits Early Delays   With investors still wary of Northern Petroleum's new strategy, it isn't great timing to find one of its new business ventures is already experiencing delays.  After the blows of March 2013, when Northern's once promising Dutch assets, now up for sale, suffered a second material reserves downgrade, the AIM-quoted E&P announced new projects in Canada and Australia.  The news did not steady investor nerves and the shares remain under pressure as it now seems the near-term work programme on its newly acquired leases in northern Alberta has already been derailed by slow progress in securing formal assignment of the wellbores from the previous operators. News: August 29, 2013 President Energy Begins To Makes Headway With Its Drilling Programme In Argentina President Energy’s gamble or, rather, calculation that going into Argentina would give it the step up in output it needed looks as if it is starting to pay off. Over the course of August the company  reported that two of the three wells in its fracking programme in Argentina have shown gratifying initial results. Also, in Paraquay, which President CEO John Hamilton describes as the group’s “jewel in the crown” a seismic programme has identified some intriguing new targets.
